This week I worked on some initial monster designs, which will be the main enemy type. The main enemy type will be 'Monstrosities', which are animals and people who have been magically and horrifically transformed. They are covered in a black oil that drips from their bodies.

The game will take place in an American West-inspired area, so first created a list of animals I wanted to mutate, then separated them into 4 categories: Easy/Neutral, Medium, Hard & Miniboss. This really helped to plan out a bit more structure to the gameplay.

As for these current designs, I am fairly happy with most of them, and creating short descriptions for how the player interacts with them certainly helped to further build the vision for this project. I will likely work straight from these quick drawings when creating my 3D models, but I will also consider adding in extra elements or redesigning if necessary. I plan to create 1 or 2 oil-like materials in Blender that I can then use across all my monsters, to give a cohesive look. After reviewing my current designs, I will explore the final look further as I feel these are possibly too dark, with very low contrast - although I am going for a horror, low poly, low graphic look, so I will simply have to test what will work best.
